Courtney Burroughs

Dr. Burroughs is a Senior Engineer at Noise Control Engineering, Inc and an Associate Professor Emeritus from the Pennsylvania State University. He joined NCE in 2004 after retiring. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Noise Control Engineering Journal (NCEJ) published by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE). His current research project at NCE is the development of near-field acoustical holographic measurements in commercial aircraft cabins.

Dr. Burroughs was most recently an Associate Professor in the College of Engineering at Penn State University. He was also a Senior Research Associate at the Applied Research Laboratory at PSU. His areas of research included: acoustic radiation, flow-induced vibration, propeller noise, damping, calibration of acoustic arrays, Statistical Energy Analysis, tire noise, fan noise, highway noise barriers and structural intensity. Previous to positions at PSU he was a Senior Scientist at Bolt Beranek & Newman (BBN) where he worked on noise emissions from medium and heavy trucks and truck tires, physical models of sonar self-noise, ocean ambient noise and shipboard airborne noise predictions and treatments. He was one of the co-authors of SNAME's "Design Guide for Shipboard Airborne Noise Control" along with NCE's President Raymond Fischer.

Dr. Burroughs has a PhD and MSE in Engineering Acoustics from Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Kansas State University.

Dr. Burroughs is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (FASA). He was the Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) from 1994-2001. Courtney is the current Chair of ASA Structural Acoustics and Vibration Technical Committee. He has also served as Vice-President of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) (1998-2001) and Board of Directors (1997-2001) and General Chair of NoiseCon04 (2004). He has chaired numerous technical sessions at annual meetings of both the ASA and INCE and was the General Chair of the ASA Spring meeting in 2002.
