October 2014 PAPER: Eric Favini will be presenting a paper entitled "Impacts of Insulation and Joiner Treatments on Low Frequency Vibration in Marine Structures with Finite Element Applications" at the 2014 SNAME Maritime Convention in Houston, Texas on October 23. The written paper is co-authored by Jesse Spence.
September 2014 PROJECT: NCE has just successfully completed a pilot project for the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) to reduce noise in a number of their hydroelectric powerplants. The project is featured in the Summer 2014 issue of the Reclamation newsletter which can be found Here. Due to the huge success of this project, additional plants have been targeted for noise control efforts.
PAPER: Jesse Spence presented a paper entitled "Acoustic Design and Testing of the R/V INVESTIGATOR" at the OCEANS14 Conference in St. Johns Newfoundland, discussing the acoustical design of the vessel. The written paper was co-authored by Raymond Fischer.
PAPER: Michael Bahtiarian was an invited speaker and presented his paper, "HVAC Noise Prediction and Treatment for Ships" at the annual conference of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE); NoiseCon 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
July 2014 PROJECT: Noise reduction on US Navy Aircraft Carriers. NCE has been the prime contractor in the effort to reduce noise on the Gallery Deck of US Navy Aircraft Carriers resulting from flight operations. Due to a very successful measurement and noise reduction feasibility study during actual flight operations, a ship change document has been generated by the Carrier Program Office and noise control treatments are currently being installed.
June 2014 PAPER: Andrew Patterson presented the paper entitled "Measurement System to Assess Underwater Noise from Vessels and Marine Activities" at the UA 2014 (Underwater Acoustics) June 25, 2014 in Rhodes, Greece. Co-authors were Jesse Spence and Ray Fischer.
May 2014 PROJECT: NCE has completed a milestone evaluation and report for the Ship Structures Committee (SSC) detailing appropriate methods of performing vibration analyses on ships using finite element analysis. As part of this effort NCE performed testing on the Maine Maritime Academy vessel STATE OF MAINE.

PAPER: Jesse Spence and Eric Favini also presented a paper entitled "Finite Element Modeling Methods - Vibration Analysis for Ships" at the Ship Structures Committee 2014 Symposium in Linthicum Heights, MD.
PAPER: Jesse Spence Lou Pettit presented a paper entitled "How to Maximize the Acoustic Advantages of Diesel-Electric Propulsion" at American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) conference, Electric Machines Technology Symposium in Philadelphia. Coauthors were Lou Pettit and Raymond Fischer.
PAPER: Chris Page presented a paper entitled "Noise Induced Hearing Loss Mitigation via Planning and Engineering" at the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) meeting in Providence May 8, 2014. Coauthors were Ray Fischer and Mr. Kurt Yankaskas of the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
April 2014 PAPER: Leo Boroditsky presented a paper titled "Shipboard Noise Calculation form External Noise Sources with DesignerNOISE" given to the Russian Acoustical Society in St. Petersburg, Russia. Coauthors were Ray Fischer and Jesse Spence.
January 2014 PROJECT: The R/V INVESTIGATOR was delivered to CSIRO, Australia’s national science and marine research agency. NCE was responsible for the acoustic design and testing. The vessel is one of the first to meet DNV SILENT-R underwater noise criteria, as well as other acoustic requirements. NCE performed underwater noise testing using the NCE BAMSTM system. This was the second time BAMS was deployed overseas to ASIA and the first time it was used in Singapore.
November 2013 PROJECT: NCE performed certification testing of the four film sound stages of New England Studios located in Devens, Massachusetts. Each sound stage achieved a Noise Criteria (NC) rating of NC-18 or better under typical filming conditions.
October 2013 PAPER: Jeff Komrower presented a paper titled "Predicting and Controlling Noise Aboard Aircraft Carriers during Flight Operations - Recent Successes," given at the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Annual Meeting in Seattle. Coauthors were Ray Fischer, Leo Boroditsky, and Kurt Yankaskas of ONR.
