NCE has written the following general design guides. It includes guidance on the construction of quiet ships, based on our numerous years of experience. These documents are general guidance and if you have specific issue and are working with NCE on current contact feel free to call our office to discuss the general design guidance.

The documents below are intended for NCE clients only. If you are interested in getting this information please call the office for the password which allows access to these documents.

Acoustic Insulation
This design guide provides guidance for use of acoustic insulation and acoustic absorption in accommodation and machinery spaces. Information on installation of the material and composition of the material itself are also provided.

Bow Thrusters
This design guide provides rules of thumb to developing quiet bow thruster installation. It also provides guidance on impeller design and abatement techniques. Noise control treatments are divided into source, path and receiver treatments.

Damping Tile Installation
This design guide provides general installation guidelines and procedure for attaching the damping tiles to ship structure.

Flexible Connectors
This design guide provides guidance for flexible connections in piping, HVAC, exhaust, electrical and shafting systems.

Hull Form
This design guide describes hydrodynamic design guidance which will impact the acoustic performance of the ship.

HVAC
This design guide lists simple rules in order to keep HVAC systems quiet.

Piping Systems
This design guide provides guidance for the quiet design of fluid systems.

Propeller Tip Clearance
This design guide provides guidance for the appropriate tip clearance for propellers in order to result in quiet design.

Vibration Isolation & Foundations
This design guide provides guidance on use of vibration isolation. It discusses which types of shipboard equipment should and should not be vibration isolated. It reviews general requirements, material requirements, pipe hangers, foundations/sub-bases and installation details.
